Dive with the Exotic Animals of the Galapagos!

The Galapagos Explorer 2 features special a la carte diving days, as a paid substitution for certain Galpagos naturalist visitor site excursions. Scuba diving programs are offered to passengers on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. 4 passengers are required to provide the Galapagos dive programs listed below. If less than 4 passengers wish to go, you can still tak the a la carte Galapagos diving at a premium price. You can find a sample of the Galapagos diving itineraries available on the Galapagos Explorer 2 below. All diving itineraries are subject to change without notice, depending on operational conditions. The Galapagos animals/sea-life mintioned below is likely to be seen, however, not guaranteed.

Tuesday: Mosquera Islet or Daphne Islet (2 dives).

Mosquera Islet: Large colonies of garden eels, mantas, Galapagos sea turtles, white tip sharks, possible hammerhead schools, eagle rays (during the warm season) and plenty of tropical fish. There are two walls; the first one with a sandy bottom at 15 meters, sloping to a sandy shelf at about 21 meters. The second one; a rocky wall that starts at just above 20 meters and drops to nearly 40 meters. Dive Time: up to 45 minutes.

Daphne Islet: Here you can wall dive with morays, white tip sharks, hammerheads, Galapagos turtles, black corals, lots of fish, and many other invertebrate species. Dive time: up to 50 minutes.

Friday: Academy bay, Santa Cruz Island (2 dives) This area is great for the beginner and intermediate diver. The currents in these areas are generally calmer.

Punta Extrada, Santa Cruz Island: Sea Turtle Canyon. See many types of tropical fish, stingrays, and Galapagos sea turtles. There will be possible encounters with golden rays and some white-tip reef sharks. Punta Estrada, located on Santa Cruz Island has many visible geological formations, stunning to the human eye. Dive time: up to 45 minutes.

Punta Nunez Cliffs: Here, divers can experience Galapagos wall diving in a cave where you can observe sea turtles, stingrays and various tropical fish. Dive time: up to 45 minutes.

El Bajo Solmar: This submerged shoal at Academy Bay has an impressive amount of fish, white-tip sharks, morays, invertebrates, caverns, eagle rays, stingrays, turtles. This area is great for the beginner and intermediate diver. The ocean currents in this area are usually calm.

Saturday: The same Galapagos dive sites will be offered as on Tuesday.

Galapagos Explorer Cruises - Scuba diving program

Rates The rate per day per person is US$245.00 (includes 2 dives) and features the following:

  • Transportation to/from the Galapagos diving site.

  • Diving equipment: aluminum tanks with 3000 psi /207 bar, wetsuits (5-7mm width), jacket type

  • BCD with power inflators; regulator with octopus; pressure gauge and depth gauge; mask, fins, snorkel and booties.

  • Dive Master, Galapagos National Park approved (1 master for each 4 passengers) .

  • Water and snacks.

  • Not included: US$10.00 transportation to and from the vessel on Tuesday.

Information On The Dives:

A dive is considered one tank. All tanks feature the international connection system - if passengers want to use their own regulator with DIN system, they will have to bring their own adapter. Diving time depends on each passenger's air consumption. All dives are between 15 and 25 meters, where most of the Galapagos marine life in located in the Galapagos Islands. The maximu dive depth is 30 meters.

Diving Equipment Not Included:

Divers also have the option to bring their own equipment. Passengers will need to bring a dive alert whistle, scuba tube, mask, and wetsuit.

Diving Requirements (Mandatory):

  • Clear copy of your diving license (the original will be requested on board)

  • Dive insurance certificate

  • Book your diving program prior to your cruise departure.

  • Completed diving forms and release of responsibility, signed by each passenger.
